J/ψ Suppression in an Equilibrating Parton Plasma

چکیده

Short-distance QCD is employed to calculate the J/ψ survival probability in an equilibrating parton gas, whose evolution is governed by a set of master rate equations. Partons in the early stage of high-energy nuclear collisions may initially not be in equilibrium, but their average transverse momentum is sufficiently high to break up a QQ̄ bound state. Such a break-up during the evolution of the parton gas is shown to cause a substantial J/ψ suppression at both RHIC and LHC energies, using realistic estimates of the initial parton densities. The transverse momentum dependence of the suppression is also shown to be sensitive to the initial conditions and the evolution history of the parton plasma.

J/Ψ suppressions in Relativistic Heavy-ion collisions

We study J/ψ survival probability, using short-distance QCD, in an equilibrating parton gas. The evolution of the system is determined within the Parton Cascade Model. Due to the formation of a large number of partons within this model, a large fraction of J/ψ are found to be suppressed. In a thermal equilibrating plasma this suppression is found to be almost 95 percent, while it is around 90 p...

J/Ψ suppressions in a thermally equilibrating quark-gluon plasma at RHIC

We estimate the survival probability of J/ψ in relativistic heavy-ion collisions, using both short-distance QCD and nuclear absorption mechanism. The suppression is found to be almost 100 percent for a thermally equilibrating quark-gluon plasma. The measurement of such a huge suppression of J/ψ may suggest the existence of a deconfined partonic medium, possibly a thermalised quark-gluon plasma,...

J/ψ Gluonic Dissociation Revisited : I. Fugacity, Flux And Formation Time Effects

We revisit the standard treatment [Xu, Kharzeev, Satz and Wang, Phys. Rev. C 53, 3051 (1996)] of J/ψ suppression due to gluonic bombardment in an equilibrating quark-gluon plasma. Effects arising from gluon fugacity, relative g − ψ flux, and ψ meson formation time are correctly incorporated in the formulation of the gluon number density, velocity-weighted cross section, and the survival probabi...

An alternative way of plotting the data and results of models of J / ψ suppression

We propose an alternative way of looking at data on anomalous J/ψ suppression. The proposed method is in principle equivalent to the one used by the NA50 Collaboration, but it permits to visualize separate contributions of individual processes responsible for the disintegration of J/ψ's produced by a hard process in nuclear collisions. The method can be used provided that the time sequence of c...

J/ψ suppression in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions

Using a multiphase transport model, we study the relative importance of J/ψ suppression mechanisms due to plasma screening, gluon scattering, and hadron absorption in heavy ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. We find that for collisions between heavy nuclei such as Au+Au, both plasma screening and gluon scattering are important. As a result, the effect due to absorption by ha...
